It is (just) possible to have some sympathy for people like this. But given that, judging from the tone of the article, they voted entirely from self-interest and apparently with little insight into what Brexit might mean (admittedly difficult if you were at all gullible as we told it would make little practical difference), such sympathy is given grudgingly. Really, was it likely that being outside the EU was going to make things easier for British citizens wanting to settle in Italy?!
I didn’t make this ‘mistake’ – I voted Remain – but will nonetheless be a victim (Italy has yet to introduce the Digital Nomad visa I need to stay here). So, barring miracles, farewell ‘la dolce vita’… also friends and the ‘casetta’ that I have come to think of as home.
