Labour’s grand plan has a glaring hole – Brexit
The Labour Party’s much-vaunted election plan announced today looks like being nothing more than empty words unless it tackles the elephant in the room of Brexit, the Rejoin EU Party says.
Keir Starmer’s party will likely struggle to achieve its so-called “six steps for change”, such as providing economic stability, cutting NHS waiting times, boosting border security and recruiting more teachers, without addressing the economic and political damage caused by leaving the EU, Rejoin EU says.
Economists have said the UK economy last year was almost £140bn smaller than it would have been if the country had stayed in the EU’s single market and customs union, UK investment growth has stalled since the 2016 referendum, UK GDP has under-performed that of similar economies by between 4-8% and sterling has slumped 16% and 11% versus the US dollar and the euro.
The only meaningful way to stop the economic rot, boost revenues and cut costs for consumers and businesses is to break down Brexit trade barriers by re-joining the SM and CU.
Meanwhile, re-joining the EU would provide more funds and staff for the NHS and public services and improve cross-border co-operation in tackling issues like border security and immigration.
Rejoin EU Party leader Brendan Donnelly said: “Starmer obviously thinks he can get through the election without mentioning Brexit. This is cynical and implausible on his part. All of his pledges would be easier to meet if Brexit was reversed.”

The Rejoin EU party is campaigning to re-join the EU because we believe re-joining is the only way to solve the multiple problems Brexit has created. Brexit is broken and it’s breaking our country too. All the promises on which Brexit was sold to the electorate in 2016 were nonsense. Far from reducing red tape and providing £350m a week for the NHS, Brexit makes trading with the crucial European market more complex, difficult and expensive and threatens to reduce funding for public services. If you agree Brexit is making our country poorer, less tolerant and less united, join us and send a message to Westminster that you want your EU membership back, with all its freedoms and benefits.
