  1. Given that any trade deal with a Trump-led US will inevitably involve the UK accepting a drop in standards, especially in relation to food production, and that Starmer is a man who likes his ‘red lines’, this should be an absolute no-no.

    The way forward is obvious: soft-play the US deal and get back into the EU customs union and trade area. (It’s going to happen to sooner or later, so why not just get on with it? Starmer has ruled this out but he’s done a volte-face on so many other things that one more can’t seriously worry him, surely? Bite the bullet… )
