Stevens said: “David Solomon is quite right to identify Brexit as the predominant factor in the growing risk to the City of London’s status as the primary financial services centre in this time zone.
“The consequences of the current erosion of that status accelerating, as Goldman Sachs’ projections indicate, are dire for the UK economy as a whole, given financial services is our principal remaining globally competitive sector.
“But the more immediate danger lies in the damage already being inflicted upon UK government tax take – and this at a time of unprecedented fiscal strain and fragile international confidence in UK Gilts.
“When will the Labour government realise that a clear expression of an intention to re-join the EU is now the only way to head off a financial crisis which could prove fatal to its survival in office.”
I remain completely baffled as to why and how ordinary people swallowed the lies and hate spread by anti-EU organisations.
It was patently clear that Johnson and his “leavers” were hell-bent on assuring that their “mates” were not “burdened” by a new EU tax. Sadly, far too many ordinary people were sucked in and, instead of checking the facts, decided that Johnson and other leave campaigners were reliable.
I live in Wales. Sadly, far too many of my countrymen & women, believed the lies although I am delighted that voters in my constituency voted Remain, despite us having, at that time, a far-right Brexiteer as our MP. Fortunately, we now have an excellent pro-EU female, Labour MP and hold some hope that the mistakes of the past will be overturned.
As an aside, I stood with 1000s of people in Parliament Square and heard Keir Starmer demand a second referendum. At present I am somewhat disappointed in Starmer and am still waiting for him to do the right thing for this country and our children!
