RED: Cost of Living

Now the protests are planned

The Unite union, with 1.4 million members, is the first major union to announce its support for a growing list of demonstrations taking place throughout the country on 12 February in anger at the huge rise in energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis. “Inflation is rising  and wages are not keeping up,” said the union. “And in April we face an increase to National Insurance at the same time as the fuel bills hike. Join the protests! Bring friends, workmates, placards and banners!”

The list of protests, announced so quickly, is impressive and growing. So far they are planned in Manchester; Newcastle; London; Bristol; Brighton; Nottingham; Glasgow; Lancaster; Cardiff and with more to follow – details can be found on The People’s Assembly website. With the resignation of five of Johnson’s closest advisors announced this week, and talk of further splits at the top of government, never has the time been right to protest. There is a cost-of-living crisis and, as we will show on 12 February – we won’t pay.
